About USPSA and USPSA BC

Understanding the organizations behind practical shooting in North America.

USPSA

The United States Practical Shooting Association governs practical shooters in the US. USPSA rules, divisions, and classifications are very similar to those of the IPSC, however the induction process for new shooters is simplified and less expensive.

USPSA BC

USPSA BC (Lower Mainland) was the first Canadian club affiliated with USPSA, hosting matches under USPSA rules in Canada and submitting match and classifier results to the USPSA database.

Our Goals

The club promoted practical shooting in BC, hosted matches and informal events for USPSA members, and safely introduced gun owners to the world of competitive shooting.

Schedule & Results

USPSA BC matches required advance registration and payment. New USPSA shooters needed to complete an orientation, demonstrate safe firearm handling during a course of fire, and have their skills and gear approved by an NROI-certified Range Officer before participating.

USPSA members living in BC could participate in USPSA matches in the USA (Northwest Section matches), BC, or matches hosted by any other international club affiliated with USPSA.

Match Results History

Membership

Information about USPSA membership for Canadian shooters.

While a USPSA membership was not required to shoot USPSA BC matches, it was needed to obtain a USPSA classification.

USPSA membership could be obtained directly from USPSA HQ. USPSA BC could not issue membership numbers (and unlike provincial IPSC, did not benefit from memberships) — they had to be issued by USPSA HQ.

Once a USPSA membership was obtained, shooters could start accumulating USPSA classification for matches shot with USPSA BC or the USPSA Northwest Section south of the border.

Classification

How USPSA classification worked for USPSA BC members.

USPSA Classification was based on hit factor (performance) at special classification stages, not whole match performance (unlike IPSC BC). A USPSA membership was required to obtain classification.

An initial classification was obtained after shooting 4 different classification stages at D-class level or better. This could be achieved by shooting 4 Level 1 matches (with one classification stage each) or just one Level 1 Special (all 6 classifiers) match.

USPSA BC classifier results were submitted to USPSA HQ at the same time as match results (usually within a few hours after the match) and classification was typically recalculated by USPSA HQ between the 13th and 15th of each month.

More information on USPSA Classification can be found at the USPSA website.
